About SkillsFind

A smarter way to discover open-source AI tools

SkillsFind is an AI-powered advisor that helps you find the right open-source AI tools for your project. We combine curated data with intelligent matching to give you personalized build plans — not search results.

Who is behind SkillsFind?

SkillsFind is built by a small team of developers and AI researchers who were frustrated with the experience of finding open-source AI tools. GitHub search returns thousands of results with no context. Directory sites list tools without explaining when or how to use them. We wanted something better — an advisor that understands your project and recommends tools that actually fit together.

Our curated database of 42 tools spans 7 categories: Vision & Image, Audio & Speech, Content & Text, Data & Analytics, Workflow & Automation, Coding & Development, and Infrastructure & DevOps. Every tool is verified — we check that repositories are active, well-maintained, and genuinely useful.

How does SkillsFind work?

1

Describe

Tell us your project idea in one sentence.

2

Clarify

Our AI asks 3-4 targeted questions to understand your needs.

3

Match

We decompose your project into steps and match each with the best tool.

4

Plan

You get a complete build plan with explanations and install commands.

Our tool data comes from three sources: a curated database of 42 hand-verified GitHub repositories, live GitHub search for additional matches, and case-study analysis from real AI project implementations. The matching engine uses LLM-based evaluation to rank tools by relevance to your specific project steps.

Why SkillsFind?

Because finding the right AI tools shouldn't require you to be an expert. The open-source AI ecosystem is growing fast — there are thousands of tools, and knowing which ones work together, which are maintained, and which fit your specific use case is increasingly difficult. SkillsFind does that work for you.

Our Principles

Verified Open-Source Only

Every tool in our database is a real, active GitHub repository. We verify stars, recent commits, and community health before including anything.

AI-Powered Matching

We don't just search keywords — our AI understands your project context, asks clarifying questions, and recommends tools that work together as a pipeline.

Transparent Process

You see exactly why each tool was recommended, with explanations, install commands, and alternatives. No hidden rankings or sponsored placements.

Built for Builders

Whether you're a beginner exploring AI or an experienced developer, SkillsFind gives you actionable build plans — not just tool names.

Community-Driven

Our curated database of 42 open-source AI tools is regularly updated based on community feedback and GitHub activity.

Free Forever

No vendor lock-in, no subscription fees, no hidden costs. Every recommended tool is open-source. SkillsFind itself is free to use.

How we evaluate tools

Every tool in our database meets these standards:

  • Open-source with a clear license (MIT, Apache, GPL, etc.)
  • Active GitHub repository with recent commits
  • Meaningful star count (community adoption signal)
  • Working documentation or readme
  • Installable via standard methods (pip, npm, docker, git clone)

Tools that don't meet these criteria are not included, regardless of popularity. We verify this data regularly and remove tools that become unmaintained.
